But constantly explaining you’re not a minivan is not the life for me.

I would honestly buy one of those, if when I look for a new second car and I find one, it would be so hard to say no. Who cares if people call it a minivan, it’s a 500 hp minivan that will smoke most cars 0-60. I’d even want to put a stick family on the back and a “R300 CDI” badge on it.

Eh, that’s part of the charm to me. I like the fact that it’s a fire breathing minivan.

In today’s nomenclature, this is probably more of a crossover or wagon than van. Traditional hinged rear doors, 3rd row is cramped and doesn’t fold into the floor, etc. In other words, I called this a van 10 years ago, but I can't even bring myself to do that anymore. Its contemporaries in the space (old Pacifica, Ford Freestyle/TaurusX) were rarely called vans.

Oh man, those are so cool. I remember seeing one in Dallas WAY back in 2007 and have no clue what it was. It was only later when I found out that is was really a thing, and that only a handful (I want to say around a dozen) ever came to the US.

There used to be one in Savannah, GA. I told my ex that is the one minivan I would totally rock.

Ha - that would be perfect, more people will believe that it's a diesel than an AMG anyways. My dream car is an E63 wagon, which I'd de-badge, and maybe put 'E250 Bluetec' on the back...

It’s like the antithesis of putting an AMG badge on a non-AMG.

Yeah, I despise people ‘upgrading’ their cars that way, but I love the idea of a sleeper. Although anyone who cares would recognize what it really is, anyways.

As the owner of a lesser V8 R-class I can confirm explaining that it isn’t a van got really old really fast. I don’t care anymore.

I don’t know who would refer to a wagon as a sliding door van. It doesn’t look like the millions of Caravans, Voyagers, Town and Countrys, Windstars, Routans, GM vans ... and who in the U.S. thinks that Daimler-Benz has been selling vans here? Persons are stupid.

I’m a single guy who doesn’t need two or three rows of seats or ability to haul furniture, but I would be proud to drive a silver, dark red, navy blue, or black one—and dust other motorists all the time. I just wouldn’t enjoy the fuel-mileage.

Well yeah. But, everyone. It doesn’t drive like, look like, or anything like a van. It’s not even built like a van, considering it has proper differentials and transfer case and is based off of the GL/ML.

Very weird that persons would refer to an M-B wagon as a van while it has no sliding doors and rear door handles are not near forward edges as on vans ... such as Toyota Sienna, Nissan____, Honda Odyssey, Dodge Caravan, Chrysler Town And Country, Plymouth Voyager, Ford Windstar, Ford Aerostar, Chevrolet ____, M-B Vanio, VW Transporter, VW Vanagon, VW bus, Ford Econoline, et cetera ... But I do understand that billions of persons are dullards.

If it’s not a minivan, what is it? It’s a minivan.

That’s just it. I think it is a minivan. But it doesn’t matter because it’s fast.
It’s like when people mockingly refer to your 300ZX as a Datsun. The Z’s legacy comes from Datsun and the 240Z was a very significant car. Awesome and beautiful and light and fast. If a 300ZX is a Datsun so be it.
